Q: How will I know what my child is learning?
A: Each week, you will receive a progress report email detailing the week's lesson and your student's progress and achievements!
Q: What if we go on vacation or make plans and my child misses a class?
A: One advantage of digital tutoring through Google Meet is the flexibility for your student to call in from anywhere! If they do miss a class, no problem! We'll miss your student, and if they'd like to keep up with the curriculum they can reference the progress report email detailing the week's lesson.
Q: What if I want to switch to a different time slot than the one I registered for?
A: Email crabtreechinese@gmail.com for scheduling inquiries, your student may transfer time slots depending on availability.
Q: You're not a native speaker—are you qualified to teach Chinese?
A: Absolutely! While I'm still a "Chinese Student" myself, I can certainly teach what I've learned from the level of a top-of-the-class 12th-grade Bridge learner. I can help your student succeed in the DLI program and prepare to pass the AP test from the perspective of a student who's done it! Wherever your student is at along their Chinese journey, I've been there—and my firsthand understanding of learning as a non-native speaker can help them through it!
Q: What are the most common weak spots in a Chinese DLI education?
A: According to University-level Chinese Professors, DLI and Bridge Graduates are fantastic at almost everything... except for tone! DLI students tend to speak with heavy American accents and neglect tonal pronunciation, which is why learning and practicing correct pronunciation is heavily emphasized in Crabtree Chinese Tutoring lessons.
The next most common "weak spots" are remembering correct sentence order and classifier words i.e. "个“ vs ”只“.
